How to create an effective presentation?

1. Keep the number of slides to a minimum count.

To maintain a clear message and to keep your audience attentive and interested, keep the number of slides in your presentation to a minimum. Too many slides can confuse your audience or can cause distraction with your presentation.

2. Make sure the fonts are readable.

Choose the right font size and appropriate font style that can help to get your message across. Avoid using too fancy font style, especially when doing a formal presentation, for your presentation to look formal and neat. When presenting keep in mind that your audience is a lot further away from the screen than you were while you were creating the presentation. So to make sure your audience can comprehend what is being presented, never insert text into your presentation that is smaller than 24point.

3. Utilize the 7 x 7 rule.

You want your audience to listen to you present your information, rather than read the screen. Use bullets or short sentences, and try to keep each to one line; that is, without text wrapping. Some projectors crop slides at the edges, so long sentences may be cropped. The ideal number of words per line is seven (7) and the ideal number of lines per presentation is also seven (7), which makes the 7 x 7 rule.

4. Use of appropriate graphical representations.

Graphics or visuals can help the presentation look more appealing or creative. Use enough and appropriate graphics to help tell your story. You can use graphs, tables, shapes, flow charts, or diagrams. However, do not overwhelm your audience by adding too many graphics to a slide.

5. Consistency of the design.

Choose an appealing, consistent template or theme that is not too eye-catching. You don't want the background or design to detract from your message. Again, presentations are done to help you transfer the message easier, not to distract the audience from the actual message of the presentation.

6. Put proper contrast.

If you are set on using certain font types and colors in your presentation, make sure that your content is always easy to read after the background images are applied. Always go back through your presentation and locate the trouble spots and mask your text with a darker or lighter shape. This will allow you to keep your background selection and create a presentation that is easy to read and digest.

I hope you get something from this. Thank you! Have a nice day!
