Different Types of Social Media





Social media is the collective of online communications channels dedicated to community-based input, interaction, content-sharing and collaboration. Social media is becoming an integral part of life online as social websites and applications proliferate. Most traditional online media include social components, such as comment fields for users. In business, social media is used to market products, promote brands, connect to current customers and foster new business.

Here are the six (6) types of social media based on their specific purposes:

1. Social Networks



Social Networks allow you to connect with other people with the same interests or background. These sites can also serve as a medium of communication for people all around the world. 

2. Bookmarking Sites


Bookmarking Sites allow you to store and manage links to various websites and resources.

3. Social News



 Social News allow you to post your own news items or links to other news sources. These serves as a way to be updated about what is happening around the society whether locally or internationally. 

4. Media Sharing


Media Sharing allows you to upload and share media content like images, videos, and musics.

5. Microblogging
Microblogging are sites that focus on short updates from the user.

6. Blogs and Forums



Blogs and Forums allow you to post their content, while the other users are able to comment on the said topic.

    1. There are various kinds of social media depending upon its purpose. If it is for communicating with other people, then I guess it would have to be facebook. If it's for creating your own blog site, it would be blogger.
